The sport of athletics encourages athletes of all abilities and ages to compete at their optimum level. During the Invitational Games being held in Malta, athletes will be competing in various field and track athletics disciplines
Swimming
Swimming
Swimming is one of the most popular sports in world. Unlike other sports, swimming is a life skill that is taught, first, to ensure safety and, secondly, for sports and competition purposes. Aquatics covers a great variety of swimming skills, from short sprints to longer events and relays.
Swimming will be hosted at the National Pool Complex, Tal-Qroqq Msida.
5-a-side Football
5-a-side Football
Football is considered the World’s most popular sport. Introduced to the Special Olympics in 1986, it is currently the second largest participated Special Olympics sport by athlete number globally, with participation rapidly growing.
Football will be hosted at the Marsa Sports Complex, Marsa.
Bocce
Bocce
Bocce is an Italian game where the basic principle of the sport is to roll a bocce ball closest to the target ball, which is called a pallina. Bocce as a Special Olympics sport provides people with special needs the opportunity to have social contact, develop physically and to gain self-confidence. Established at Special Olympics in 1991.
Bocce will be hosted at the University of Malta Sports Hall, Tal-Qroqq Msida.
Table Tennis
Table Tennis
Table Tennis is a fast sport that requires excellent coordination of hands and eyes. Special Olympics athletes share the essential elements of force and ability so that they can play Table Tennis. Established at Special Olympics in 1987.
Table Tennis will be hosted at the University of Malta Sports Hall, Tal-Qroqq Msida.
Ten-pin Bowling
Ten-pin Bowling
Ten-pin Bowling is a competitive sport in which a player rolls a bowling ball down a wooden or synthetic lane with the objective of scoring points by knocking down as many pins as possible. Bowling is considered to be among the most popular sport in the Special Olympics. Established at Special Olympics in 1975.
Ten-pin Bowling will be hosted at the Eden Super Bowl, St. Julians.
