‘Going for Gold’ – launch of the official song for the Special Olympics Malta Invitational Games 2022

The President of Special Olympics Malta, Dr Lydia Abela, launched the official song of the Special Olympics Malta Invitational Games 2022 to be held from 14 to 17 May.

The song, written by Ira Losco and Howard Keith, with the vocals of Ira Losco herself, describes the efforts of athletes that strive hard to succeed not just in their personal life but also in sports. The song aims to promote and celebrate the diverse abilities that every person possesses.

During a press conference to mark the launch of the official song, Dr Lydia Abela said that these games were a celebration of everyone’s abilities. Furthermore, it demonstrates how athletes and their families manage to overcome their daily challenges and difficulties and in parallel, focus on their capabilities.

Dr Abela stated that “Music is one of the strongest tools to ensure that a message is received and understood. I am confident that this song will have a wide reach and thus deliver this objective.”

On the other hand, singer Ira Losco conveyed a message of positivity to all athletes and said that they are the stars of the music video, and of the Special Olympics Malta Invitational Games 2022.

From 14 to 17 May, over 1000 athletes from 23 countries will compete in 6 sports disciplines. Dr Abela encouraged the Maltese public to support the athletes participating in the Games, especially the Maltese contingent. She added that sport, an effective way of leading a healthy life, will be bringing athletes together for an amazing experience they truly deserve.

At the end of the press conference launching the official song, the President of Special Olympics Malta Dr Lydia Abela presented a gold medal to singer Ira Losco as a token of appreciation for her contribution and involvement in the Games.
