Athletes Return to Malta with 24 Medals from Los Angeles

Athletes win 24 medals at Special Olympics World Games 2015 in Los Angeles.

Maltese athletes won a total of 24 medals; 7 Gold, 10 Silver and 7 Bronze. Gymnast Nathalie Galea (33) ended her 14 year career as part of Special Olympics Malta on a remarkable note, receiving Gold in all events. Whilst the youngest athlete of this year’s team, Alec Falzon aged 11 won two Bronze medals in Athletics in his first International experience.

Mrs Michelle Muscat, Honorary President of the Maltese Special Olympics team and Winter Moods frontman Ivan Grech, who is the Special Olympics Ambassador greeted the Maltese delegations at the airport. Hon. Chris Agius, Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth & Sport travelled with the athletes from Los Angeles.

22 athletes from six different disciplines represented Malta in the Special Olympics World Games which took place in Los Angeles last week. Malta competed in Athletics, Aquatics, Bowling, Bocce, Gymnastics and Table Tennis. The Maltese delegation included 12 coaches, an assistant Head of Delegation, Elaine Bonnici and Anna Calleja, as Head of Delegation and National Director of Special Olympics Malta for the past 15 years.
